The foundation

 
Before commencing construction you must find a suitable location to build the oven. A protected area in the yard is ideal. The oven door should preferably point in the direction from which the wind blows most of the time in your area at the time of year you expect to use the oven the most.

Once you find a spot for construction the first task is to level the surface of the ground then mark out the external dimensions of the foundation 165 cm x 140 cm (65 X 55 inches.) I scooped out a ditch 30 cm (12 in.) wide. The depth should be approximately 50 cm (20 in.). A depth of 80 cm (32 in.) is even better, especially where freezing weather is common in order to provide the foundation better protection.
